Quantities are approximate. Only the Demeter standards 2026, chapter II.2, are binding (horn manure and horn silica at least 1× per year each; they do not prescribe quantities in grams). The recommended frequencies and g/ha doses come from the practical literature (Wistinghausen, Arbeitshefte 1 & 2, Masson); they are a recommendation, not an obligation.
How the preparation calculator works
Demeter minimum
The Demeter standards 2026 require horn manure and horn silica at least once a year, and on fruit, vine and conversion land without prepared ruminant manure also a collective preparation. They do not prescribe grams. For that, the calculator uses the dose from practice.
Recommendation from practice
Frequency and dose per type of area after Wistinghausen and Masson: horn manure 100 g, horn silica 4 g, barrel compost 240 g and horsetail 25 g per hectare and application, more in vegetable, fruit and vine growing, less on large contiguous farms.
Order to the gram

Frequently asked questions about the preparation calculator
How much horn manure do you need per hectare?
The calculator assumes 100 g of horn manure per hectare and application, stirred for one hour in 50 l of water. Wistinghausen gives 120–300 g per hectare (4 horn contents). Two applications a year are recommended on arable land, three on grassland.
How much horn silica do you need per hectare?
4 g of horn silica per hectare and application in 40–60 l of water (Wistinghausen); Masson gives 2–4 g. In orchards and soft fruit about 8 g in 100–150 l. The Demeter standards require at least one application a year.
How many compost preparations do I need for my manure?
One set of compost preparations 502–507 is enough for 5–10 m³ of manure or compost, about 20 m³ of slurry or liquid manure. One portion is half a teaspoon (about 2 g) per preparation. The calculator works with 7.5 m³ of solid manure or compost per set.
Can I order my annual requirement directly?
Yes. The calculator turns your requirement into an order for loose goods from Präparatekiste, to the gram and with volume pricing. The minimum order value is €20. If you make your own, the raw materials go into the same order.
