Working with the preparations in December — winter rest with one exception
Growth stands still and the field spray preparations rest — with one exception: valerian as frost protection. Plus horsetail as a preventive and the compost preparations.
In December plant growth stands still and the field spray preparations are not used — with one exception: the valerian preparation 507. Applied on its own, it has a warming effect and protects overwintering crops from frost.
Otherwise the land rests. What remains is preventive plant protection and compost work.
What needs doing
- Valerian (507) as frost protection: dynamised and applied to plant or soil, especially for vegetables that stay in the field over winter, and for vines and fruit. Wistinghausen recommends preventive application on the evening before an expected frosty night; Masson and Maria Thun alternatively treat very early in the morning after the frost. Dosage: 5 to 10 ml per hectare, stirred for 10 to 20 minutes, sprayed finely onto the plants.
- Horsetail (508): as a tea, preventively on the soil of sites at risk of fungal disease.
- Compost preparations: when building and turning compost heaps, or into slurry.
Making
No work in the ground — the buried preparations mature in the soil over winter.
