Watering by the moon calendar 2026

In the biodynamic calendar, water belongs to the leaf day. Whoever waters flowers, vegetables and lawn by the moon takes the leaf days: the moon then stands in front of Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces. Pierre Masson also counts full moon and perigee among the times shaped by water.

The next leaf days for watering

Days with a leaf day in the next four weeks, even where it covers only part of the day. Unfavourable hours are listed with their times.

Leaf day: the water day of the calendar

The four day types follow the constellation the moon stands in front of. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces belong to the element water and give the leaf day. Biodynamic practice puts everything to do with water and leaf growth on these days: sowing lettuce, cabbage and spinach, tending leaf vegetables, watering.

Pierre Masson describes leaf days as days strongly influenced by water. He therefore harvests storage vegetables on other days. The same influence makes the leaf day the day for watering.

Full moon and perigee

Masson also counts the full moon and the moon’s perigee among the water times. For watering, the days around the full moon are water days like the leaf days.

When full moon and perigee coincide, the time is also considered favourable for fungal diseases. Masson then advises spraying horsetail as a precaution. Whoever waters on such days waters at the foot of the plant and keeps the foliage dry.

Water in the morning

In the greenhouse, Masson advises watering in the morning and airing thoroughly. The same holds outdoors: the water soaks in before the sun takes it, and the foliage dries off over the day. In hot weather, leaf plants get their water early in the morning.

Horn silica and water

Whoever works with the preparations watches the water after horn silica: Masson describes that horn silica increases evaporation in vegetable crops and orchards, so additional watering can be advisable in dry weather. Horn silica is sprayed on leaf days, when the plants are getting enough water.

When the calendar steps back

Drought does not wait for a leaf day. The calendar chooses among the days on which watering happens anyway: when sowing or repotting is due, that day gets the watering. Young plants, pots and boxes need water every day in summer.

Hours to avoid

Lunar nodes, perigee, the occultation of a planet by the moon, planetary nodes and eclipses count as unfavourable in the biodynamic calendar, whatever the day type. So do the days from Good Friday to sunrise on Easter Sunday.

The list above names such hours with their times. If fewer than two suitable hours remain between 6 am and 9 pm on a day, that day is left out.
