Working with the preparations in February — the soil impulse begins

As soon as the land can be driven on, the soil impulse begins: horn manure at the start of the growing season, valerian as frost protection in winter cereals, horsetail preparation when fungal pressure is high.

February brings movement to the land. As soon as the soil dries out and can be driven on, the soil impulse begins: horn manure (500) opens the preparation year even before growth really gets going. Horn silica only follows once green shoots are up — soil comes before light.

What counts is the state of the soil, not the date: in a wet, cold February everything moves later.

Grassland and arable land

  • Grassland: horn manure at the start of the growing season, as soon as the land can be driven on.
  • Cereals: horn manure at the start of the growing season and for spring sowing; valerian (507) as frost protection in winter cereals; horsetail preparation (508) for crops at risk of fungal disease.

Practical tip: if around 2 ml of valerian preparation per hectare is stirred in at the end of stirring the horn manure, this strengthens the enlivening effect in the still-cold spring and serves as frost protection (after Wistinghausen, Arbeitsheft 2).

Vegetable garden

  • Horsetail tea when fungal pressure is high.
  • Valerian as frost protection for sensitive crops.

Making

No earthworks yet — the preparations buried in autumn continue to mature.
