Working with the preparations in January — what is due in winter

In deep winter the field spray preparations rest. What still makes sense: horsetail preparation on frozen ground, valerian as frost protection, compost preparations.

In deep winter, preparation work largely rests. The field spray preparations horn manure and horn silica are not used, and the preparations buried in autumn continue to mature undisturbed in the soil. No earthworks are due now.

Three tasks still make sense — they protect sensitive crops through the frost and keep the compost going.

What is due

  • Horsetail preparation (508): on fruit, vines and potato land, as a preventive measure on the frozen ground, in several applications.
  • Valerian (507): dynamised as frost protection, directly on sensitive plants or on the soil.
  • Compost preparations: work them in when building and turning compost heaps, or add them to the slurry.

Making

No earthworks — the buried preparations mature in the soil over winter.
