Working with the preparations in September — the making cycle begins
Barrel compost and horn manure carry the autumn sowing, horn silica ripens the fruit — and in the soil the great making cycle begins: burying and lifting.
September combines ripening and new beginnings. In the fields, barrel compost and horn manure carry the autumn sowing; in the orchard, horn silica ripens the fruit. And in the soil the great making cycle begins: the horns are filled with manure and buried, last year's horn silica is lifted, and the compost preparations go into their sheaths.
This is the busiest month for making — whoever carries it through carefully has the preparations for the coming year in the ground.
Grassland and arable land
- Grassland: horn manure after each cut or grazing, horn silica about two weeks later.
- Cereals: barrel compost at stubble cultivation and when fertilising; horn manure for autumn sowing and sowing catch crops; horn silica in winter cereals from the three-leaf stage.
Vegetable garden
- Barrel compost on harvested beds.
- Horn manure and horn silica according to the stage of development; horsetail when there is fungal pressure.
Vines and fruit
- Horn silica for ripening (in the afternoon).
- Barrel compost on the leaves before leaf fall, but after the harvest.
