Horn manure 500P

What is horn manure 500P?

Horn manure 500P is also called prepared horn manure. It is horn manure 500 to which the six compost preparations 502 to 507 have been added by a method of its own. One spraying thus brings the impulses of horn manure and of the compost preparations onto the land together. Pierre Masson describes the combination as a synergy that greatly increases the strength of horn manure (Masson 2015, p. 19).

Origin

Prepared horn manure was developed by Alex Podolinsky in Australia (Masson 2015, p. 19; Stappung, ch. 18.9, p. 345). Podolinsky converted large areas there to biodynamic farming. Masson's handbook goes back to a booklet that Podolinsky wrote for the Australian biodynamic association.

Stirring and spraying

500P is stirred for an hour and sprayed like horn manure. Water quality, water temperature and the time between stirring and spraying matter just as much as with plain horn manure (Masson 2015, p. 20). One or two applications a year, in spring and in autumn, are usually enough (p. 19). Masson also uses 500P when working in green manure. Storing

Fresh prepared horn manure is still transforming and grows warm as it does. Stappung advises letting this warmth out: air the preparation and loosen it (Stappung, ch. 13). Otherwise the same applies as for horn manure, see storing the preparations.

Demeter

The Demeter standards 2026 do not name 500P. They require horn manure at least once a year during the growing season on all areas and, in certain cases, prescribe a combined preparation (ch. II.2.4, para. 1, 3 and 4). Stappung lists 500P among the combined and mixed preparations (ch. 18.9).
