Felling trees and cutting timber by the moon 2026

In the biodynamic calendar every tree species has its planet. When that planet stands in trine to another planet, it is felling time for the species’ timber. When it stands in opposition, it is sowing time for its seed. Days with a lunar node, perigee, planetary node, occultation or eclipse are left out.

The next felling and sowing days

Trees and their planets

Rudolf Steiner assigned seven woods to the columns of the first Goetheanum: hornbeam to Saturn, maple to Jupiter, oak to Mars, ash to the Sun, birch to Venus, elm to Mercury and cherry to the Moon. In the Agriculture Course he places the coniferous forests with Saturn.

The Dyyna calendar lists further species: beech, pine, juniper and plum with Saturn, apple, walnut and copper beech with Jupiter, lime, willow and pear with Venus, rowan and hazel with the Sun. Spruce, fir and cedar belong to the Sun and Saturn, larch to Mercury and Venus. In the calendar the cherry stands with Mars.

Felling time: the planet in trine

A trine occurs when two planets stand 120 degrees apart as seen from Earth. When such an aspect involves the planet of a tree species, the calendar names the day as felling time for its timber. The date is the calendar day on which the aspect occurs.

Sowing time: the planet in opposition

In opposition two planets face each other, 180 degrees apart. The calendar then names sowing time for the tree species of that planet, for seeds and nuts.

When no date applies

On calendar days with a lunar node, lunar perigee, planetary node, occultation or eclipse the calendar names no tree date, even if an aspect occurs that day.

The month view of the calendar app shows the felling and sowing days of each month with the species.

Frequently asked questions about felling trees by the moon

When do you fell trees by the lunar calendar?

On the felling days of the species: when its planet stands in trine to another planet and the day is free of lunar nodes, perigee and eclipses. The next felling days are listed at the top of this page.

When do you cut oak timber?

The oak belongs to Mars. Its felling days are the days when Mars stands in trine. The list above gives them with dates.

What is sowing time for trees?

The days when the planet of the species stands in opposition to another planet. Tree seeds and nuts are sown then.

Why is there no date on some days?
