Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
The biodynamic planting calendar assigns every day to a part of the plant. The deciding factor is the constellation in front of which the moon stands. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius belong to the element Warmth and bring the fruit day. The system goes back to Maria Thun.
The moon passes through the twelve constellations once in a good 27 days. In each round the fruit day comes up three times, about nine days apart. Before it comes the leaf day, after it the root day.
What to do on a fruit day
On a fruit day you sow and plant what is grown for its fruit: tomatoes, beans, grain, fruit. Fruit trees and berry bushes are pruned on a fruit day in the descending moon; citrus and chilli in pots are repotted on a fruit day.
Tomatoes, beans, fruit and berries are harvested on a fruit day, in the ascending moon and in the morning. Horn silica (501) is sprayed on fruit, vines and fruiting vegetables on fruit days in the ascending moon.
According to Pierre Masson, soil work with the moon in Leo wakes many seeds in the soil. Hoeing is therefore better done on a root day.
How long a fruit day lasts
The constellations differ in width across the sky, so the periods differ in length. The moon takes longest to cross Sagittarius, almost three days, and the shortest time to cross Aries. The constellation rarely changes at midnight. The list above gives start and end to the minute.
Hours to avoid
Lunar nodes, perigee, planetary nodes, the occultation of a planet by the moon and eclipses count as unfavourable in the biodynamic calendar, whatever the day type. Which hours these are on a given day is shown in the calendar’s month view.
Frequently asked questions about fruit days
When is the next fruit day?
At the top of this page, with start and end in local time. It is a fruit day as soon as the moon stands in front of Aries, Leo or Sagittarius.
Which constellations bring the fruit day?
Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, the three constellations of the element Warmth.
What do you do on fruit days?
Sow and plant tomatoes, beans, grain and fruit, prune fruit trees, harvest fruit and fruiting vegetables, spray horn silica on fruit and vines.
Does the fruit day depend on the moon phase?
No. The day type follows the constellation in front of which the moon stands; the phase describes its light. A fruit day can fall in a waxing or a waning moon.
